You DO NOT have to take both the SAT and the ACT, but you can.

SAT

tests your knowledge of reading, writing, and math
SAT Subject Tests – are hour long content tests to showcase achievement in specific subject areas where you excel.
  • CSU and UC’s no longer consider SAT or ACT test scores as a factor in admission decisions
  • Take during your Junior and Senior year of high school
  • Register at satsuite.collegeboard.org
  • Free with a FEE WAIVER – ask your high school counselor
  • Submit scores at collegeboard.org
  • May send unlimited free score reports if eligible for the fee waiver

ACT

tests your knowledge of English, reading, math, and science.
ACT Plus Writing – includes the four subject area tests plus a 40-minute writing test
  • CSU’s and UC’s no longer consider SAT or ACT test scores as a factor in admission decisions
  • Take during your Junior and Senior year of high school
  • Register at act.org
  • Free with a FEE WAIVER – ask your high school counselor
  • Submit scores at act.org
  • May receive up to 4 submissions for FREE!
